The history of our land – the beginning of a dream

Maciarine since 2005

Le Maciarine was born in Seggiano in 2005, in an area exceptionally suited to viticulture and of outstanding landscape beauty. The first vineyards were immediately planted on gently sloping hills that descend towards the Orcia River, between 330 and 400 metres above sea level. Around four hectares in total, half facing south, the other half south-west. The blend is predominantly Sangiovese (90%), with Cabernet Sauvignon (5%) and Petit Verdot (5%) to soften the palate and enhance the aromatic profile.
In 2015, Federico and Michela Vigni – both very young at the time (he with a degree in Environmental Economics, she studying Architecture) – were searching for new experiences and felt the pull to return to a life deeply connected to the land. While looking for the right plots for their future farm, they stumbled upon this corner of paradise: a garden of ancient Olivastra Seggianese olive trees, vineyards, cultivated fields, pastures and woods stretching down from the hamlet of Poggioferro towards the Orcia Valley.

Fascino irresistibile

A breathtaking panorama: the charming village of Seggiano, the olive groves that shape the lower slopes of Mount Amiata, the castles of Potentino and Velona, the abbeys of Sant’Antimo and Sant’Angelo in Colle in neighbouring Montalcino, and finally the spectacular sunset over the tiny village of Montenero.

This is a landscape shaped by human hands – the kind of beauty that only wise, caring hands can create. The splendour of the scenery, the quality of the existing vineyard, and the excellence of Montecucco wines convinced Federico and Michela to invest everything in this new adventure.

Certified organic estate

Since 2020 the estate has been certified organic.

No pesticides – ever. We control weeds only by mechanical removal.

Zero contamination risk

No pesticides – ever

We use only mechanical weed control, natural fertilisers and contact products (which do not enter the plant’s physiological cycle) to protect the vines from disease.

Monitoring

Copper and sulphur levels

To minimise the use of copper and sulphur, we rely on advanced weather stations that constantly monitor conditions in the vineyards.

Zero impact

Clean solar energy

Photovoltaic panels installed on our winery roofs cover all our energy needs and largely offset the entire CO₂ footprint of the estate.

The land is life

and that’s why we respect it

Natural harmony, zero impact

inside and outside the bottle

Our estate cultivates its vines in perfect balance with the environment: every gram of CO₂ produced is fully offset by the clean energy generated by our own solar panels, while the soil remains free from pesticides and synthetic chemicals. The vines absorb only what nature provides, transforming that purity into every drop of wine — a true, authentic expression of an intact and deeply respected land.
